International Netlibris

International Netlibris - Literature Circle Around the World

Netlibris was chosen one of the Umbrella projects of Netdays2000. Students choose quality books from the database, read the books in their own language and discuss their reading experience in some common language with other readers in virtual discussion groups. Sometimes they meet face-to-face with each other and with writers either in real life or via video conferencing. International Netlibris Discussion

The first international literature circle, Matilda i Norden, was launched during the Netdays`99 week. In Matilda i Norden both the books and the participants were mostly from Scandinavia and Estonia. Matilda i Norden project was funded by the Nordic Cultural Fund.

National adaptations

The concept of Netlibris is easily transportable in various user groups, subjects and cultures. The technology required is available in many countries. The most important ingredients are the network of dedicated teachers and the opportunity for collaboration and in-service training.

The Estonians have been the most active partners and organised many teacher workshops together with the Finnish developers. Now they are running their own national pilot project. The Finnish Netlibris team can assist new national projects by organising teacher workshops in other countries too.  Contacts
